My vote would be to make that BP rev like a bike. Super high comp high rpm miata sounds like a blast. :)

Miatas don't need much power to be scary fast.

3rd tops out at something like 80mph if he has stock gearing.

Solidifies my choice. Lightweight drivetrain, stronger headstuffs, itbs. Done.

You do know it takes about 20k to get a miata to anywhere close that na power wise?

$10k+ on that one, but that was built by a shop.
If I build it, it costs me itb cost, injectors, clutch, mill head/block, Pistons maybe rods.
Also found these: http://www.amazon.com/OBX-94-97-Miata-1 ... ywords=itb There is also another one made from billit aluminum, $320 for just the adaptor plate, would probably go with that over the OBX setup.
The actual throttle bodies are oem toyota ( ae111 ) like most kits. So the only obx parts are the velocity stacks and a cast aluminum part.
People have had success with them on honda motors, and I already have all the tuning stuff.

I'm with walnuts
Just to get it to rev to 9000 (more than once) will take a new billet oil pump, harmonic balancer, some sturdy rods, and some serious headwork, among lots of other things to actually make power up there.
A lot of the cost is in things you can't do at home. Unless you have a boring bar in your garage, then I'd be a bit impressed.

why would you want to spend twice as much on an engine that has 60 less hp than a regular turbo miata?

Turbo is easier for power. But a miata is about feel. The instant response of ITB would be awesome.

ITB probably won't happen ever. But would be ideal for the car.
Just the jenvey itb setup would put it in range of some motor swaps.

Will probably just turbo it. 200hp or so.

Updates.

Mig welded the open diff. Welded in the normal 8 points, and 3/16" plate across the gears for added strength.
Gotta hold all that miata torque.

Reassembled

Burning out the rubber diff bushings.

Preparing to install these saturday ( today I guess )
Delring diff bushings ( white ) and delring motor mounts. I might try the delrin. If I don't like them I will make some out of poly I have.

Need to find tires, or I won't have any to drive the event. :?

Got the welded in, and the delrin diff mounts. But not the motor mounts yet.

Just the delrin diff mounts mostly stopped any shifter movement, and added a slight vibration.
I think it made the motor move more though. Since only one side of the drivetrain is solid.
Hopefully I can get the motor mounts in tonight or tomorrow.

After finally driving on my modded knuckles at the event Saturday, I have a renewed passion for the miata. Low ackerman + welded diff is terrible for a DD, but it all comes together on the track. I would love to see some video of my laps, I didn't take any pics or vids saturday, just focused on driving.

I kinda want to tweak the suspension, and maybe add power steering back on ( with a huge cooler and reservoir ) before I turbo the car. After one day of drifting my arm was cramping from the quicker, depowered steering.
If I could find a manual steering rack, would be nice too, they have a slower ratio, so it would be quite a bit easier.

And I need new tires again. 4 of 4 are feathering and I was only running them on the front Saturday. The opposite lock grip is immense. With a proper alignment even on stock power it would be an awesome drift car.

I finally have money to order the final turbo parts.
Been opening up all the boxes from the garage of the gathered parts so far. Figuring out needs bought/replaced.
All the pieces are coming together.

Image

Need to...
Order all the parts, manifold, little bits and pieces.
Put parts on my car. ( I might use one week of vacation just to do this all at once. )
Retune my car. Street tuning FTW.

Probably order a stack of tires, Higher offset rear wheels to run 0 camber.
Mod rear upper arms for 0 camber. And as much camber as I can on the front.
Get an alignment.

Celebratory Burnouts.

Running 6psi right now. should be ~150-160whp.
Runs great. Megasquirt + tunerstudio auto tune is great.

Looked at the current NA map, guesstimated the map above 100kpa, and drove it to work a few days until it started not really changing anything.
Seriously easy to do. I was surprised by the lack of drama, for a pretty quick bolt on. Usually I forget something minor, something loose. etc.

Been driving it daily, no issues still. Over about 250 miles on it so far.
Looks to be getting pretty good MPG still, even without tuning the highway cruise AFRs leaner.

After injectors should be able to do about 12psi for a "safe" 220whp.

How's this coming along?? I won't be able to afford a turbo for a long while so until then I'll just have to dream about this one...

Is that an ARTech mani? What turbo are you using?

Came along nicely. Been driving it for several thousand miles since the turbo, no issues.
Running a bit over 14 psi now and it is pretty wild. Especially in anything but the dry.
Artech mani and downpipe, homemade 3" exhaust.
Airesearch ( garret ) journal bearing 50 trim. .48ar turbo. T3 flange.
Reverant built MS2, FIC 650cc EV14 injectors.
Tial MV-S EWG, Synapse BOV.
Ebay intercooler, rad and fans.

It really only needs some suspension tweaks and all the mods will be "done"
