No updates on the running car, except ecu is shipped.

Wrecked car is coming apart nicely. Interior swap possibly later this week.

I'm so jelly you could spread me on toast.
That panel with the gauges and switches and lights... fucking childhood dream of mine.
then there's that mani...

are you going to be DIY'ing it?

The gauges are nifty, but I might have to lose the double din panel since I want a radio.... Even though I never really listen to it....
There is also the option to run no extra guages. Megasquirt has options for oil temp/pressure etc. inputs for logging. Add serial bluetooth adaptor, and an android tablet.... Guages only when you want them. Shadow dash.

The manifold is hard to work with, lots of hard to reach bolts. And has a weird ewg setup. I think a standard log manifold would be cleaner and allow me to do 3" turbo back.

If I had cash, or a tig welder.... Or both.
I would do something like this, full v band.

Oh yes.
Had to tweak some voltages to get the wideband to show correct, they show up different because there are no perfect grounds in a car.
Image

Maf gone.... Replaced with a plastic cup that was the perfect size.
Image

I also ordered the bluetooth serial adapter so I can run shadow dash on an android.
Deciding if I want a nexus 7 tablet, or upgrade my evo to a Galaxy S3.

Been driving it around and playing with tuning.

I need to mess with the spark and fuel maps some, get some more power.... But I don't want to mess with stuff too much, want to order some silicone vacuum tubing and maybe a nicer oil sandwich plate for better oil lines to the turbo.

I might make some, nothing really exciting though, just some different gauges.
But I did enable spark cut red line today..... Rrr pop pop pop
Doesn't fall flatt on it's face when you hit redline before you shift, just stops increasing RPM. Pretty nifty.

I might wire up the launch control switch just so I can shoot fire at low rpm, even though it is kinda pointless without the turbo.

I need quieter exhaust while tuning....

Need to sell stuff so I can buy the bits needed to get this turbo bolted on.

it is a short list now:
oil sandwhich plate.
few feet of braided stainless line.
straight intercooler tubing, couple different silicone couplers.
mandrel bent tubing for down pipe.
silicone vacuum lines.
clutch is the big money item.
maybe $500 and all that will be done.
that will get me to like 5 psi or something. 150+ hp until the injectors run out.

then I need big injectors and bigger coils to turn up the boost.
under 250 hp is the goal to keep the trans intact.

then the spare motor gets forged parts, and I need to find a six speed trans.
final power goal 375. hopefully late next year.

all in a 2250 lb car.

Who need rack spacers? just shorten the rack.
Chopped both ends off and ground them flat. I left a little margin of error, but trimmed the most I could off both side without the rack running out of teeth.
Essentially a ~10mm spacer. It normally looks like this. -> http://www.flyinmiata.com/tech/depower.php?x=2
Image
Fixing this depowered rack correctly.
Soldered the flexy part in the middle that normally tells the fluid which side to go to. It supposedly tightens up the steering even more.
Image
That flexy part normally does this.
better pics more info here -> miatabusa

I will need to drill a couple set screw holes to keep the passenger side support slidey thing in place, since I cut the snap ring bit part off. But, a little time, and free, I should be running stock offset wheels now.
Image

Need to order some s13 tie rods, and get this rack and some new rod ends swapped. Better steering angle.... but more to come.

Edit for assembled phone video. woohoo.
Had to smooth out the little grooves because they started hitting the ends seals there was so much steering.
~3 1/8 turns lock to lock. Also s13 tie rod end.

MAP and Intake air temp. Megasquirt is fun.

Sounds beasty, but can't hear it really over the exhaust.

Some stuff got here today.
Image
Installed the wheel which is kinda a chore on the miata since it has a weird clockspring setup.
Looks good:
Image
Looks real good....
Image
So I took the car apart...
Image

And this black interior will be going in, dashs carpet, seats, all the plastic. the only thing I don't have are 94-97 style door cards.
Image
Plan on also pulling all the airbag stuff since it is kinda useless in these cars.

Also got curious and too one of the 1.8 cross brace things apart, You can see it in the third pic, goes behind the seats attaches to the seat belt towers.
Image
It's actually a pretty big tube, but not really crash worthy. With some reinforcement I think it could be a real cheap harness bar.

How did you get the huge preload adjuster nut loose? Do you have a 40mm socket lying around??

Fully stripped the interior, wire brushed and painted any bits of surface rust from the leaky A/C unit ( fixed the drain on that too )
Also moved some of the wiring loom ( yellow plugs and green tape on the black A/C box ) so the ECU now sits in the passenger airbag compartment, it usually sits behind the passenger seat and takes away the already limited legroom, especially with the bigger megasquirt box.
Image
And base carpet and most of the dash is in. The airbag cover was removed so it will look completely stock once I figure out how to attach it.
Image
And for comparison, the old blue and tan. I think the new all black interior looks way better, even not finished.

Thanks, a lot has been done, but still way more to do.

My car can do magic tricks.
Image
Tada! A megasquirt ecu appears where the airbag was! And the bluetooth serial adapter fits.
Image

I am tempted to make this car super stealthy, hide all the gauges or use the megasquirt and have virtual gauges only when I need them.
Hide and signs that it goes fast... and make it go really fast.
